Batang Ai Longhouse Sarawak
Day 01 – ARRIVAL – Batang Ai IBAN LONGHOUSE
0800 Hrs Meet and greet by your guide at hotel lobby. Depart for your journey through rural Sarawak, passing pepper gardens, cacoa and rubber plantations, rice fields and oil palm groves. A few stops were made along the way.
Visit the native wet market in small town called Serian, where a variety of jungle products, a wide variety of fish and vegetables can be bought. After visiting Serian Town, proceed to Liew's pepper garden at Lachau. Lunch en route. Take the opportunity to buy some presents for the Iban people but also plastic bags which we could use for your luggage on the longboat later on.
Reached Batang Ai River jetty at 3:30pm. A native longboat awaits you at the Batang Ai jetty for 1 hour boat ride across the Batang Ai hydro power dam and journey through tropical rain forest to reach the longhouse, home of the Iban tribe. Relax on the ruai (common verandah) and spend time with the Iban people. After dinner, we have a cultural dance (Ngajat) from Iban people, learn about their culture and enjoy some local rice wine (Tuak and Langkau). Overnight stay. (Lunch / Dinner)
Day 02 – LONGHOUSE – KUCHING
After breakfast, witness a blowpipe demonstration, followed by a cock fighting demonstration & short trekking surrounding Iban Longhouse. Depart down river by longboat for about 1 hour journey then continue by van. Lunch enroute. Proceed to Kuching and drop off at your hotel. (Breakfasts, Lunch)
Include: All transportation,Boat charges,Meal as stated, Permit & Entrance fee where applicable, longhouse accommodation & expenses, English speaking Guide.
Exclude: Tipping, Gift for the Iban, Beverages and Items not mentioned in itinerary.
What you need to bring: Small travelling bag, personal toiletries, torchlight, raincoat, slippers, trekking shoes, Basic First Aid Kit, insect repellent.
